A Mrirt rug is a premium hand-knotted Moroccan rug from the Mrirt region of the Middle Atlas Mountains, regarded as the highest quality tier of Berber weaving. Mrirts feature exceptionally dense knot counts, sometimes silk thread accents, and intricate patterns — traditionally reserved for wealthy Moroccan households and religious leaders.

This particular rug is hand-knotted from long-staple premium wool with a knot density up to three times a standard Beni Ourain. It ships with a heritage card bearing the master weaver's name and region.

Why a Mrirt Is Different

Standard Berber rugs are woven at 100,000 to 150,000 knots per m². A Mrirt reaches 300,000 to 500,000. This density multiplies the weaving hours a master invests in every square meter. The result is a rug with the visual sophistication and durability of an heirloom textile: tighter pattern definition, silky drape, and generations of expected lifespan.

Where a Mrirt Works Best

  • Formal living rooms — where the rug is the centerpiece
  • Executive offices — heirloom-quality presence
  • Master bedrooms of homes where the rug is a long-term investment
  • Design-forward collector interiors — museum-grade craftsmanship

Investment Value

Premium Mrirts appreciate in value over decades. Mrirt cooperatives are among the smallest in the Berber weaving world — fewer than 50 master weavers still produce at heirloom-grade density. As supply shrinks and Western demand grows, high-quality Mrirts have been the strongest value performers in the Moroccan rug market over the last 15 years.

Care Instructions

  • Vacuum weekly without a beater bar (suction only)
  • Rotate 180 degrees every 6 months for even wear
  • Spot-clean spills immediately with cold water and mild wool-safe soap
  • Professional wool cleaning every 2 to 3 years by a specialist familiar with premium hand-knotted rugs
  • Use a quality wool-safe rug pad — extends life by 5 to 10 years

Frequently Asked Questions

How long until I receive my rug?
Every rug is made to order. Weaving takes 2 to 5 weeks depending on size and density, plus 3 to 7 business days DHL Express delivery — plan for up to 6 weeks total. We keep you updated at every step.

Can I order a custom size?
Yes — message us on WhatsApp with your dimensions and we'll weave it exactly to your space.

Why is a Mrirt more expensive than a Beni Ourain?
Knot density and labor time. A Mrirt takes several times the weaving hours of a standard Beni Ourain, and uses higher-grade wool. What you pay reflects genuine craftsmanship time, not markup.

Are the silk accents natural silk?
Yes. Silk thread accents (on variants that include them) are natural silk sourced from small Moroccan producers, not viscose or synthetic silk.

How long will a Mrirt last?
Well-cared-for Mrirts typically last 80 to 150 years and pass down through generations. Museum-grade examples from the 1930s and 1940s remain in excellent condition today.
