An authentic Boujaad rug is a handwoven wool rug from the Haouz plains south of Casablanca, made by Berber women of the Boujaad tribe. It combines vivid palettes with dense abstract patterns that cover the entire field. Each rug is a personal composition; no two Boujaads are identical.

This particular rug is hand-knotted from 100% natural sheep wool and dyed with traditional plant pigments - madder root, henna, indigo and walnut hull. It ships with a heritage card bearing the weaver's name and region.

Where a Boujaad Works Best

  • Bohemian living rooms - warmth and personality without needing another statement piece
  • Creative studios and art rooms - the dense pattern reads as textile art
  • Dining rooms - the rich palette hides everyday wear better than cream rugs
  • Layered bedrooms - pairs beautifully under neutral bedding with leather or linen accents

Cultural Context

The Boujaad tribe traditionally wove these rugs for family use, and each pattern tells a story - the birth of a child, a wedding, a memory of drought or celebration. The abstract geometry is not decoration; it is personal narrative. When you buy a Boujaad, you are inheriting a story the weaver chose to tell.

Care Instructions

  • Vacuum weekly without a beater bar (suction only)
  • Rotate 180 degrees every 6 months for even wear
  • Spot-clean spills immediately with cold water and mild wool-safe soap
  • Keep out of direct sunlight to protect natural dye colors
  • Professional wool cleaning every 2 to 3 years

Frequently Asked Questions

How long until I receive my rug?
Every rug is made to order. Weaving takes 2 to 5 weeks depending on size, plus 3 to 7 business days DHL Express delivery - plan for up to 6 weeks total. We keep you updated at every step.

Can I order a custom size?
Yes - that's the beauty of made-to-order. Message us on WhatsApp with your dimensions and we'll weave it exactly to your space.

Will the colors fade over time?
Natural plant dyes soften gradually over decades in ways synthetic dyes never do. A 30-year-old Boujaad's colors become richer and more layered with warm depth. This is aging, not fading.

What's the difference between Boujaad and Azilal rugs?
Both are colorful Berber rugs, but Boujaad rugs use dense edge-to-edge patterns, while Azilal rugs feature brighter mixed colors on an ivory ground with more empty space. Boujaads read bohemian; Azilals read like modern art on wool.
